Pourim 2011 (19 et 20 mars) et l'attaque atlanto-sioniste en Libye

http://theuglytruth.files.wordpress.com/2011/03/liberated.jpg

Rationales Justifying Collective Punishment of Amalek (by prof. Hannah Kasher, Bar-Ilan University's Parashat Hashavua Study Center)

* Exode 17: 13-16:

PURIM AND GENOCIDAL PHANTASIES
BY RAN HACOHEN
Purim. One of the most popular Jewish holidays among Orthodox, traditional and so-called secular Jewish Israelis alike. The streets are packed with children and adults wearing costumes, make-up and all sorts of masquerading, on their way from one joyous Purim party to the next. Happy days. But behind the carnivalesque masks, ominous demons are lurking.
Tel Aviv, Sunday, February 24th
Hanan Usruf, a 40-year-old Arab sanitation worker for the city, was savagely beaten by some dozen Jewish men. The Jerusalem Post reported that Usruf’s injuries
include a fracture in his right eye socket and deep lacerations on his right ear and across almost his entire head. His vision is blurred in his left eye, but he can make out small numbers and letters, doctors said.
The Times of Israel added that the victim – an Israeli citizen, one should add – attacked by “drunken youth” required dozens of stitches and that doctors were doing their best to save his eye; under his horrendous photo in hospital, Usruf is quoted saying that
the youths kicked him and broke bottles on his head while shouting racial epithets at him. “They shouted things like ‘f**kin’ Arab’ and ‘get your own country.’
Jerusalem, Monday, February 25th
Hana Amtir, an Arab woman standing at the tram stop near the central bus station, was attacked by a group of young Jewish women. AFP quotes a (Jewish) eyewitness who took pictures of the attack and documented it on Facebook:
Suddenly shouts were heard, and a group of young religious Jewish women confronted the woman and suddenly a young Jewish woman punched her in the head, […] the rest then joined in, hitting and shoving the Arab woman. The woman tried to fight them off but they shouted at her not to dare touch Jews and they continued as a group to attack her and even forcibly pulled off her head covering, […] the incident was witnessed by a security guard from the rail company and a group of ultra-Orthodox Jewish students who stood by and did nothing.
Framing
Both events – the lynch in Tel Aviv and the attack in Jerusalem – were reported widely in the Israeli media (separately or eventogether [Hebrew]), justly framed as hate crimes, sometimes with reference to similar crimes in the recent past. Some public protest followed – a demonstration, petitions and op-eds. However, no report I’ve seen mentioned the fact that both crimes were committed on Purim (24.2), a one-day holiday that lasts a day longer in Jerusalem (24-25.2). At best, one could find the holiday mentioned in passing, for instance in the Times of Israelthat also described the Tel Aviv victimizers as drunken: “Police had yet to make any arrests […] After detaining suspects, the police will determine whether the attack was racially motivated, or the action of out-of-hand Purim revelers,” as if racist motivation and Purim revelry were mutually exclusive. But as a rule, Purim was simply ignored as irrelevant.
Is the Jewish holiday really irrelevant? The notion that the attackers were drunken can be easily traced back to the religious duty to get drunk on Purim. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Purim has been identified with Jewish violence (and with accusations of violence against Jews, true or false) for centuries. Just think of the West Bank town of Hebron for example: it was Purim 1981 when Jewish settlers brought down the roof over an Arab upholstery in “Beit Hadassah”, expelling its owner and taking over the house, a crucial step in what has since developed into a full-fledged ethnic cleansing at the heart of the Palestinian town. The settlers’ Purim parades in that city have become a tradition of provocations, with Jewish violence escalating from year to year – culminating in Purim 1994, when a Jewish settler massacred 29 and injured 125 Muslim worshippers in the Cave of the Patriarchs. The butcher joined the settlers’ hall of fame: “Purim in Hebron after 1994 was like Purim in Hebron since 1981, only more so – with a new Jewish hero for Jewish children to dress up as,” writes Israeli historian Prof Elliott Horowitz in his excellent Reckless Rites: Purim and the Legacy of Jewish Violence (2006, p. 8), that documents the roots and history of Jewish Purim violence (alongside with its anti-Semitic abuses by Christians) from ancient times to the present.
Why Purim?
Like any legacy stretching from the Ancient World through the Middle Ages to Modern Times, Judaism is a multifaceted culture: it can be universal as well as nationalist; egalitarian as well as racist; liberal, even revolutionary as well as ultra-conservative – all these messages can be found in it. Among other things, Purim, however, has always reflected deep genocidal phantasies of revenge. The Book of Esther, the textual basis for this holiday, tells the story of the miraculous saving of the Jews of Persia from their enemies, most notably the evil Haman. It ends with the hanging of Haman by the Persian King. Consequently, the Jews take revenge and kill Haman’s ten sons, murder several hundreds of non-Jews in the capital Susa, and then massacre seventy-five thousand non-Jews all over Persia. That’s how the Book of Esther ends. The (probably non-existent) historical foundations of these events are irrelevant: it’s the myth and the memory that matter.
The genocidal roots of Purim go even deeper: Haman, as the short Book of Esther repeatedly stresses, is an “Agagite”, that is, an offspring of Agag. Agag was the King of the ancient Amalekites, the archetypal enemy of the Jews, on which the Bible commands to inflict genocide: “you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; do not forget” (Deuteronomy 25,19). When King Saul sins by sparing King Agag’s life, God regrets He had made him king of Israel, and Prophet Samuel “hews Agag in pieces before the Lord” (I Samuel 15,33).
These are not just idle interpretations for the learned or deep secrets known to the few; it’s all anchored in the liturgical practice of Purim. While the public reading of the Book of Esther is at the heart of the holiday itself, the Torah-text on blotting out Amalek is read in synagogue on the “Sabbath of Remembrance”, the last Saturday before Purim.Once the Arabs are seen as Haman/Amalek, Purim turns into a carneval of incitement against them.
Educating Israeli Soldiers
The Chief Rabbinate of the Israeli army has recently produced ashort video (in Hebrew) to “explain” Purim to Israeli soldiers. It opens by stating the obvious, namely that Persia is today’s Iran; among the images that flash every now and then when Haman is mentioned we see not only Ahmadinejad, but also Hezbollah’s leader Nasrallah, as well as (several times) Hitler, and, yes, Jesus Christ, who also makes a brief appearance. In a baseless rewriting of the legend, obviously aimed against present-day Palestinians, Haman and his sons are said to have resided in the Land of Israel, where they were inciting against the Jews and demanding to stop construction in Jerusalem(!) before moving to Persia, where the Book of Esther takes place.
In other words, the army “educational” video draws a line from Haman to Jesus, to Nazi Germany, to today’s Iran and Hezbollah, as well as to the present-day Palestinians. And Haman, as the video doesn’t even bother to remind its viewers, is Amalek, the eternal enemy of the Jews: “you shall blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven, do not forget.”
From Hebron to Tel Aviv
It’s truly amazing that the Israeli media ignored the Purim context of the violent events in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Jewish Israelis are witnessing a trend of “rediscovering of” and “reconnecting to” their “Jewish roots”. In such an atmosphere, one would expect those “rediscoverers” to be aware the Jewish context of the violence: after all, this is also part of the Jewish legacy they are allegedly so fond of. But no: instead of coming to terms with the lights and shadows of the rich Jewish tradition, non-Orthodox Israelis fall prey to ominous Jewish demons without even noticing them, demons that have enjoyed an uninterrupted existence among Orthodox Jews like the radical settlers of Hebron, but have now sneaked even into “secular” Tel Aviv.

The US, UK and France
have invaded Libya
on Purim. It's occupied Iraq
all over again.

Libya: The Zionist Dragon and The Drums of War
Conclusion: Purim and Occupation

On March 19th, 2011, 2 days after Netanyahu’s declarations against Qaddafi and the UN’s approval of a no-fly zone, another dastardly crime of epic proportions was committed against humanity. The name of this crime is Operation Odyssey Dawn, the title for the French-British-American coalition attack on Libya. It began with 110 cruise missiles being fired from the sea by the US and the UK and bombardment from above being provided by France (90). 64 Libyan civilians were slaughtered and over 150 were wounded (91). Another genocide in the making. General Petraeus, the slaughterer of Iraqis and Afghans, and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, another slaughterer of Iraqis and Afghans, think the mass murder of innocents deserves a good laugh (92).

It is certainly of no coincidence that the war against Libya, a revenge operation designed by the Zionist entity and instigated by its political assets, was started on the very same day that Iraq was invaded in 2003. Several analysts and politicos have made mention of this key point. The point that is not being mentioned, a point more important than the former, is that Libya, like Iraq (both inhumane invasions) and Kosovo before it, was invaded on Purim, the Jewish holiday of vengeance based on the events in the biblical Book of Esther, commemorating the killing of Persian Prime Minister Haman, who tried to wipe out the Jewish people before being wiped out himself. Haman’s descendants are the Amalekites, and due to decades upon decades of brainwashing from the global Talmudic rabbinate, many Israelis and American Jews feel that Arabs and Muslims are the Amalekites (93). It is not a conspiracy theory, an opinion, a perspective or a supposition that Purim is a heightened time of conflict in the Middle East. It is a fact (94).

For Purim 2011, the occupied West Bank was placed under siege and terminals within besieged Gaza were shut down (95). One of the most gruesome incidents on Purim in occupied Palestine was Purim 2006, when Palestinian prisoners were stripped naked, beaten, detained and photographed after IOF tanks shelled a jail of illegally held Palestinians (96). But, a flashback that digs even deeper is required to fully understand what is being done to Libya. On March 5th 1991, only five days after the Highway of Death incident in occupied Iraq, the US Congress honored a racist, xenophobic, genocidal Chabad Lubavich rabbi named Menachem Mendel Schneerson, deemed by American presidents as an achiever of “eminence as a moral leader for this country.”

The killing of non-Jews, the goyim, according to Rabbi Schneerson, was not only permissible, acceptable and even recommended, but he considered non-Jews to be a separate species from Jews. This monstrous man was the spiritual leader for many of the Zionist officials in the United States government from the first Bush administration through the second. These Zionist officials were the planners and executors of the invasions, occupations and genocides of Iraq and Afghanistan. Were they spilling non-Jewish blood on Purim to appease their spiritual leader? (97).

Those reading can “do the math,” especially considering that these same Zionist extremists are the warmongers who have orchestrated the spilling of blood in Libya today. Murdering Arabs, the Amalekites, on Purim, has become a sacred Israeli tradition (98), with certain rabbis going as far as considering Arabs worthy of annihilation for “obstructing the building of the 3rd Temple (99).” This extremism, which has claimed the lives of millions of Arabs and Muslims in the genocides of Iraq and Afghanistan, is never reported on by the Zionist media. Instead, the American people are given sustenance with fast mood meals of anti-Islamic rhetoric by the same pro-Israel war criminals sending their children to die for an illegal occupying entity. It is high time that they know what the true meaning of Amalek is and why it is of such esoteric significance to the Zionist controllers.(...)

Purim 2003: This year in Iraq?

by Tom Mysiewicz

"I confess I never did understand this part of the Book of Esther. After all, the catastrophe was averted; the massacre did not take place. Why then this call for bloodshed? Five hundred men were slain in Shushan in one day and three hundred the next. Seventy-five thousand persons lost their lives elsewhere...Is this why we are told to get drunk and forget? To erase the boundaries between reality and fantasy--and think that it all happened only in a dream?...This must explain why God chose not to give His name to the Book of Esther: He refused to be associated with the denouement--with the bloodshed. It was His way of saying, Don't ascribe this to me; I had nothing to do with it; you wanted revenge, all right--but don't make me responsible for it."

"There are no historical documents to verify the story of Purim. Some scholars think that the events in the Megillah did not occur, but rather that they are based on stories related to the Babylonian gods such Ishtar (Esther?) and Marduk (Mordechai?)"...In some communities it was not enough to drown out Haman's name with noise. People also made effigies of Haman and burned them. This practice led to instances on Purim when Jews made and burned effigies which resembled new enemies, helping them to vent their hate and frustrations."

My earliest memories of Purim as a non-Jewish boy growing up in East New York was an elderly Jew (with curls) giving me a "gragger"--the ceremonial noise maker used in Purim celebrations. I walked along happily spinning it until I came across my Eastern European grandfather, who immediately hurled it away (with horror) and gave me the first "lickin'" I can remember--and it was a pretty good one!
I'm thinking of that Purim some 45 years ago and am afraid the United States may be unknowingly participating in an ancient ritual--much like I did as a young boy so long ago. I have long been afraid that the U.S. might "choose" this time for its invasion of Iraq and the final installation of the Israeli State as the dominant Mid-East power because of the extremely negative signal this would give to Islamic extremists and even countries in the region and elsewhere. That this year, the celebration of bloodshed on Purim might be more than a dream or a ritual. That instead of the sounds "graggers". the night of March 17th may echo with the sounds of a massive U.S. bombardment--the so-called "shock and awe" bombardment of Iraq that we are being prepared to accept.
Australia's Daily Telegraph on March 6th reported that British troops had been told the bombardment would commence March 13th with the actual invasion slated for March 17th.
If this is the case, many booking March 13th-21st Purim travel packages to the Mid East may want to reconsider. And President Bush may want to go back and fill in a few of the gaps in his education, especially since Rabbinic teaching also holds that the Purim celebration will continue even after the "Messianic Period" begins, apparently in 2016 if one is to take seriously what's being said in some circles.

Rabbis: Purim, Iraq war linked
by Joe Berkofsky · March 18, 2003

(...) Blu Greenberg, an Orthodox feminist leader based in New York, supports the Bush administration’s campaign against Iraq as a “preventive war,” much as the ancient Jews defended themselves against Haman’s plot to destroy them.(...)
Rabbi Martin Weiner of San Francisco, outgoing president of the Reform movement’s rabbinical union, the Central Conference of American Rabbis, used Shabbat Zachor to draw a line from Amalek to Hitler to Saddam. A modern-day Amalek, Saddam has attacked four of his neighbors, gassed tens of thousands of his own people and pays stipends to suicide bombers, Weiner said, so “it’s terribly important to remove him.” Last September, Weiner was among those who backed a resolution from the Reform movement’s Union of American Hebrew Congregations urging a pre-emptive strike against Iraq, if Congress supported it and U.N. backing was sought. But for Reform Rabbi Don Rossoff, of Temple B’nai Or in Morristown, N.J., Amalek casts a very different shadow. Rossoff said he has refrained from publicly sermonizing this Purim about the war, which he opposes, because he is “haunted by Baruch Goldstein, who called the Arabs Amalek.” Goldstein, a doctor in an Israeli settlement near the West Bank city of Hebron, shot to death 29 Palestinians praying in Hebron’s Tomb of the Patriarch on Purim Day in 1994. Saddam is “a tyrannical, murderous dictator” who “ would probably wipe out Israel if he could,” Rossoff added. “But he’s not the only one around. His name just starts with ‘H,’ ” like Haman.(...)

This War is for Us
by Ariel Natan Pasko
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/2125

Stop and think for a moment: the last Gulf War in 1991 ended erev - just before - Purim. This Gulf War began motzei - just after - Shushan Purim. Get the picture? In between, "The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honor." (Book of Esther 8:16)

Of course this war against Iraq and Saddam Hussein is for us. Even the anti-Semites, like Patrick J. Buchanan and Congressman Jim Moran know it. (...)

However, we already knew that this war is for us - i.e., the Jews and Israel. Chazal - our sages - throughout the ages have explained the Torah, telling us that everything that happens in the world is for the benefit of the Jewish People.

(...)Read the Purim story in Megilat Esther again, it is a rags to riches story on a national scale. Haman, the proto-typical anti-Semite, plans mass murder of the Jews and in the end pays with his life, the life of his ten sons - all hanged - and the Jews kill 75, 800 members of the anti-Semitic - i.e. Nazi - party of the time.

This is not so different from the Nuremberg Trials after World War II, when 23 Nazi war criminals were tried. Originally 11 were to have the death penalty imposed if found guilty. Everybody in those days thought that they would be shot - as is customary in military executions - or get the electric chair - as was common in the United States. But when the judges announced the verdict of guilty, they also said that hanging would be the method of execution. Two hours before the execution, they found Hermann Goering dead in his cell. He had committed suicide. That left only 10 Nazis to execute.

There is more to this story than meets the eye. In Megilat Esther (9:7-9), when it describes the execution of Haman's ten sons, their names are listed in a vertical column. If you look at the Hebrew closely, you'll notice extra-small letters in three of the names. The first name, Parshandata, has a small tav. The seventh name, Parmashta, has a small shin. The tenth name, Vayzata, has a small zayn. Hebrew letters are also used as numbers, as well as for dates in the Jewish calendar. Tav, shin, zayn numerically means 707, corresponding to the year 5707, which began with Rosh HaShanah - the Jewish New Year - on September 25, 1946. On October 16, 1946, as foreshadowed in the names of Haman's ten sons, ten Nazi leaders were hanged as war criminals. And if that doesn't impress you, out of nowhere, with the rope around his neck, Julius Streicher - editor of Der Sturmer, the Nazi propaganda newspaper - shouted out with flaming hatred in his eyes, just as the trap door opened, "Purimfest 1946!" It was reported in the international press of the day.

As I said earlier, of course this war is for the Jews and Israel, and instead of hiding from the accusation, or crying, "anti-Semitic slur", we should gratefully acknowledge what the Master of the Universe is doing to our enemies for us. Saddam Hussein, Yasser Arafat, Bashar Assad, Osama Bin-Laden, and the other dictators, terrorists and mullahs of the region, are the modern day Hamans and Hitlers.(...)

Yes, the war is for the Jews. But it is also for all decent, peace-loving and freedom-loving people. Just as when the Jews were saved from Egyptian slavery, liberated, given the Torah at Mt. Sinai, and brought into the Holy Land, the world now has a great opportunity to rid itself of the Hamans, Hitlers, and Pharaohs who want to kill or enslave them today. (lire la suite...)

Libya: Another Neocon War

STEPHEN SNIEGOSKI : Neocons’ Goal — Iran by Way of Libya
March 16, 2011

That neocons would exploit any U.S. intervention in Libya to justify intervention in Iran is underscored by continued propagandizing about the alleged Iranian nuclear threat.

by Stephen Sniegoski

Although the neocons had initially been rather cool toward the popular uprisings in the Middle East which threatened regimes friendly to the U.S. and Israel, such as Mubarak’s in Egypt, they have reverted to their militant regime change stance toward Gaddafi ’s regime in Libya. In espousing this interventionist position, they are not as conspicuous as they had been regarding Iraq and Iran, when they had stood in the vanguard, but are only one component of a popular mainstream cause, which unites many otherwise disparate groups. Nonetheless, they are a vital players who apparently look to involvement in Libya as a chance to renew their now-stalled effort to reconfigure the Middle East in the interests of Israel (whose interests, they allege, coincide with those of the United States). Neoconservatives Bill Kristol, Robert Kagan, and Dan Senor - FPI
Neocons expressed their support for a more militant U.S. stance on Libya in a February 25 open letter to President Obamafrom the Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI), a two-year-old neoconservative group that is often looked upon as the successor to the Project for the New American Century (PNAC), which had pushed for the war on Iraq. The organization’s directorship is comprised of neocon stalwarts: Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol; Brookings Institution fellow Robert Kagan; former Iraq Coalition Provisional Authority spokesman Dan Senor; and former Undersecretary of Defense for Policy and Ambassador to Turkey, Eric Edelman. Kagan and Kristol had co-founded and directed PNAC.
In addition to these aforementioned individuals, other neocons signing the FPI document included Elliott Abrams, Paul Wolfowitz, Max Boot, Eliot Cohen, Thomas Donnelly, Reuel Marc Gerecht, John Hannah, Michael Makovsky, Joshua Muravchik, Danielle Pletka, John Podhoretz, and Randy Scheunemann.
The FPI letter, reminiscent of missives sent by PNAC and other neocon ad hoc committees to Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush advocating militant action toward Saddam Hussein, proposed a series of actions for the United States and NATO to take against the Libyan dictator, which included the establishment of a no-fly zone, naval control of Libyan waters to prevent sea attacks against civilians, the freezing of Libyan government assets, a consideration of a temporary halt to importation of Libyan oil, and the immediate provision of humanitarian aid. The letter asserted that failure to take more aggressive action “will cast doubt on the commitment of the United States and Europe to basic principles of human rights and freedom.” The letter maintained that “[t]here is no time for delay and indecisiveness” and that “clear U.S. leadership” is required.
Other neocons who have expressed support for a U.S. enforced no-fly zone against Libya have included John Bolton, Charles Krauthammer, Michael Ledeen, and Richard Perle. For Bolton this represents a 180 degree change from his outright opposition to the uprising in Egypt which he held would bring about the rule of the anti-American Islamist Muslim Brotherhood. And Richard Perle had actually been lobbying in favor of the Gaddafi regime around the time in 2006 when the U.S. removed Libya from a list of nations that sponsor terrorism and restored full diplomatic relations.
Most advocates of the military action against Gaddafi view it simply in humanitarian terms—as a way of stopping a brutal, crazed dictator from slaughtering his own people and thus allowing for human freedom and democracy to prevail. And this is how the neoconservatives are presenting it. For example, Bill Kristol in criticizing Secretary of Defense Robert Gates for opposing U.S. military intervention in Libya, focused on its humanitarian aspect: “Is it right to characterize an attack on the Gaddafi regime’s air defenses and airplanes, and the execution of a no-fly zone that would protect the Libyan people from Gaddafi , as ‘an attack on Libya’? Can’t we distinguish a regime that’s lost whatever legitimacy it once had from the nation that regime is destroying and the people that regime is terrorizing?”
[“Gates' successor should understand that our power is a force for good in the world, says FPI Director William Kristol,” The Weekly Standard, March 5, 2011, http://tinyurl.com/kristolgates]
It can be seen that most advocates of United States intervention in Libya perceive it as being (1) fundamentally humanitarian; (2) very limited in scope; and (3) dealing with a rather unique situation. The neocons, however, likely perceive it in broader strategic terms. For them, United States action against Libya would serve to revive their stalled Middle East agenda by providing the ideal justification for the U.S. to become involved militarily in the internal affairs of Iran, currently their (and Israel’s) major target, which they so far have been unsuccessful in achieving. Neocons have pointed out that the democratic wave threatens the Islamic regime in Iran, which they certainly want the United States to facilitate. As Michael Ledeen put it at the time of the revolt against Mubarak’s regime in Egypt: “if we’re going to praise the Tunisian and Egyptian freedom fighters, all the more reason to hail the true martyrs in Iran.”
[Michael Ledeen, “Egypt: Revolution? By Whom? For What?,” January 28, 2011 ]
That neocons would exploit any U.S. intervention in Libya to justify intervention in Iran is underscored by continued propagandizing about the alleged Iranian nuclear threat. For example, last month, a neocon-inspired fearmongering documentary, Iranium, was released, which was screened across the U.S., including at AMC Theatres, the second largest movie theater chain in North America. It portrays Iran as a brutal totalitarian state and the mastermind behind world terrorism, including the alleged training of Al Qaeda terrorists. The documentary implies that Iran strives for global domination and that it would possibly use nuclear weapons against the U.S. and Western Europe. It calls for “crippling sanctions” against Iran and holds that “if economic pressure is not successful then military force may be utilized.”
Iranium features neocons and their fellow travelers, such as Bernard Lewis, a scholar on the history of Islam and the Middle East and one of the intellectual gurus of the neocons; James Woolsey, the CIA director under President Bill Clinton; John Bolton, former Ambassador to the UN in the George W. Bush administration; Frank Gaffney, founder and president of the American Center for Security Policy; Dore Gold, former Israeli Ambassador; Harold Rhode, a specialist on Iran and a long-time Pentagon official who helped to set up what became the Office of Special Plans, which provided some of the most extreme propaganda to justify the invasion of Iraq; Michael Ledeen, a veteran neocon who has focused on Iran and authored Accomplice to Evil: Iran and the War Against the West; Reuel Marc Gerecht, senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, who was previously a resident fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and director of the Middle East Initiative at PNAC; and Kenneth Timmerman, executive director of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran.
Just as in the case of their propaganda build-up to the war on Iraq, the neocons are appealing to both democratic idealism and fear regarding Iran (and would, in all likelihood, greatly intensify this effort should the U.S. intervene militarily in Libya), so as to win over two different audiences for their cause. The humanitarian approach simply echoes and amplifies the view many liberals hold on the subject, though many are reticent about actually launching wars. The fear approach appeals to the national self-interest of conservatives and more non-ideological people.
If the United States should make any type of military attack on Libya, and if that attack in any way could be portrayed as successful (which would require far less than the establishment of a new non-Gaddafi democratic regime) immense pressure could be brought to bear on President Obama to take the same militant approach towards Iran. Neocons are already arguing that the current democratic upheavals in Libya and the Middle East vindicate the neocon-inspired “Bush freedom agenda.” Since Bush’s agenda involved the use of force in addition to ideas there is the definite implication that this should also be applied when needed. And, if the United States intervened militarily in Libya, it would have once again ignored international law’s prohibition of initiating military force against a sovereign country, further helping to establish the precedent that international law’s position on this mater is passé and thus making opposition to such aggressive wars more difficult. (Most wars in recent times have been justified, at least in part, with a “humanitarian” rationale; even Hitler went to war against Poland on the grounds that it was oppressing its German minority.)
Should Obama attempt to resist calls to intervene militarily in Iran, he would likely face charges of hypocrisy and outright indifference to American security. For it likely would be argued that the Iranian situation is far worse than that which had existed in Libya, because unlike Libya, Iran poses a threat which reaches far beyond its borders, even affecting U.S. security. The neocons have already argued that Iran threatens to poison the other democratic uprisings in the Middle East and move them in the direction of anti-American Islamism. If Iran were successful in the latter effort, they maintain, the inhabitants of those countries who overthrew their old rulers would suffer even more under a totalitarian Islamist state. And even worse from the standpoint of American security, the creation of Iran-friendly regimes in the region would enable Iran to exercise hegemonic power over the Middle East sources of oil. In achieving such regional hegemony, Iran would control the world’s oil spigot posing a grave threat to the United States and the industrialized West and be in a much better position to enhance its budding nuclear program.
The aforementioned scenario is not hypothetical and largely represents neocon thinking at this time. The neocons have expressed concern as to why the U.S. is making no effort to take advantage of the revolutionary ferment in Iran to bring about regime change and continue to excoriate the Obama administration for failing to take action there during the popular protests following the disputed 2009 Iranian presidential election. [An editorial at that time (June 29, 2009) in The Weekly Standard, co-authored by Bill Kristol, was titled “Resolutely Irresolute: Obama dithers while Tehran burns.” ]
If the U.S. opts to intervene in Libya, only an obvious failure would definitely serve to prevent an attempted replication in Iran. Thus, while the uprisings in the Middle East have threatened to lead to democratically-elected governments that, in some instances, would be more hostile to Israel than their autocratic predecessors, the neocons still have a way of making the ultimate regional outcome a net positive for what they regard as Israel’s fundamental security interests.

Neo-Cons Applaud Obama’s War, Call For Occupation Of Libya

March 21, 2011
While applauding Barack Obama’s involvement of U.S. forces in air strikes, influential neo-con Bill Kristol told Fox News that America should go further than merely bombarding Libya and send in ground troops as “peacekeepers,” embroiling the bankrupt United States in yet another foreign occupation while enabling Muslim extremists fighting Gaddafi to rise to power.
Video courtesy of Raw Story.
Enthusiastically backing Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama’s decision to follow UN orders and launch air strikes against a sovereign nation with zero congressional approval, Bill Kristol, co-founder of the Project for the New American Century, the infamous group of neo-cons that called for the U.S. government to exploit a “new Pearl Harbor” before 9/11 as a means of aggressively expanding the U.S. empire and occupying the middle east, appeared on Fox News yesterday to make it clear that the number one aim of the mission in Libya was neo-colonial regime change.
Although the United Nations resolution that preceded the air strikes was focused around a “no fly zone” (unless of course you’re dropping bombs from America, British or French fighter jets), and it specifically forbade ground troops (unless of course you’re members of the British SAS), Kristol told host Chris Wallace that he “Would not rule out ultimately having to go in with peacekeeping and nation stabilizing forces. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we do that at the end of the day.”
While acknowledging the token pretext of ‘protecting civilians’, a justification that has now entered the realms of absurdity as an aggressive military assault quickly unfolds and the U.S. turns a blind eye to atrocities carried out by its allies in Bahrain and Yemen, Kristol made it brazenly clear what the “Odyssey Dawn” operation was really all about.
“Let’s talk about the mission,” host Wallace said. “You heard Admiral Mullen, earlier in the show, say his orders are clear: protect the civilians, don’t overthrow Gaddafi. That’s not the point. Is that a mistake? Can we live with Gaddafi in any sort of power? He can create a lot of trouble.”
“No, we cannot leave Gaddafi in power,” Kristol agreed. “And we won’t leave Gaddafi in power.”
“The immediate military mission, Admiral Mullen correctly described but the political goal is to remove Gaddafi and ultimately military assets will serve that political goal."
“I hope that happens sooner rather than later here. We need to get rid of Gaddafi,” added Kristol.
In openly admitting that the whole affair is ultimately about nothing less than regime change, and in turn access to the richest oil reserves in Africa, Kristol inadvertently highlights the text of the UN resolution for what it is – a pack of lies.
Moreover, the man who represents the neo-con ideal of U.S. military domination of the entire Middle East and North Africa in the name of stopping Muslim extremism reveals himself to be the ultimate hypocrite and fraud. The rebels being backed by the United States to overthrow Gaddafi largely comprise of religious extremists who want to impose sharia law in Libya. This is why the air strikes have received the glowing approval of Libyan Al-Qaeda members.
The likes of Fox News, along with top neo-cons and deluded conservatives, the kind of people who furiously opposed the building of a mosque at ground zero in New York, are now rapaciously supportive of a military assault that will see Muslim extremists rise to power in Libya.
Kristol was joined by fellow neo-con John McCain in revealing that the no fly zone was merely the pretext on which the overthrow of Gaddafi would be initiated.

Doit-on s’attendre à d’autres guerres ?
- soutenir publiquement des organisations commémorant la Nakba, le jour de l’indépendance d’Israël ;

Nation of Islam leader says his comments on Jews are meant "to pull the cover off Satan" and "Zionists dominate the US government and banks."
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan said on Tuesday that Jews and Zionists are “trying to push the US into war” and that “Zionists dominate the US government and banks.”
Farrakhan, 77, made the comments at the Nation of Islam’s annual meeting near Chicago.

RELATED:
Farrakhan: 'Israeli lobby' controls US government

Farrakhan said his comments on Jews were meant “to pull the cover off Satan.”

President Obama,” Farrakhan said, “if you allow the Zionists to push you, to mount a military offensive against Gaddafi and you go in and kill him and his sons, as you did with Saddam Hussein and his sons... I’m warning you this is a Libyan problem, let the Libyans solve their problem among themselves.”

Farrakhan called Muammar Gaddafi “my brother and my friend.”

The Nation of Islam leader also accused American Zionists of attempting to push Israel into war with Iran, stating that “Zionists dominate the government of the United States of America and her banking system.”(...)

VIDEO - THEM EVIL MOOSLIMS (Farrakahn: Jews want war on Libya)

The Piper Report Mar 21, 2011

Minister Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam is Right!

Why aren't responsible Republicans and Democrats talking like Farrakhan? A lot of people don't like Farrakhan—that's their problem—but he's virtually the only public figure in America today of any consequence who has laid the facts about the Libyan crisis on the line.

On tonight's broadcast, Michael Collins Piper gives his 100% endorsement to Minister Farrakhan (whom Piper has met on a number of occasions) and urges sensible Americans to pay heed to Farrakhan's words.
Louis Farrakhan reminds us that the American government murdered Americans at Waco as well. How many American politicians would dare to say that?
Piper also says that—as rotten as Sen. Lindsay Graham is—the senator is right when he uses the terms "isolate" and "strangle" in the context of the conduct of U.S. foreign policy. Piper says that Graham is wrong to say that we need to "isolate, strangle" Libyan leader Qadaffi, but that the words "isolate and strangle" should be the rallying cry for Americans who do need to rise up and isolate and strangle those who really are isolating and strangling the American people.
Through the Federal Reserve and the Controlled Media a small handful of criminal families and big money interests who are wedded to the global Zionist agenda (often called "the New World Order") are strangling the American people financially and spiritually and murdering their sons and daughters in needless foreign wars that isolate America from the rest of the world.
And now that the United States has essentially said that it's "okay" for people to rebel against their governments—illustrated by the U.S. support for the rebels in Libya—maybe it's time for the American people to rebel!
And, by the way, another thought: If the United States really supports freedom fighters, why in the name of God haven't we gone into Israel and isolated and strangled that government that oppresses the Christians and the Muslims? After all, isn't the United States "for democracy"?
Piper says that it's time to institute a nationwide "Synagogue Watch" identifying the people and forces that are attempting (quite successfully, if truth be told) to use their political influence to get the United States into foolish foreign wars. After all, Piper points out, some very well-known and respected synagoguers in America have been implicated by the FBI for spying and espionage on behalf of a foreign nation—Israel—guilty of treason. These synagoguers are known to have worked to bring the police state to America—through the mis-named "Patriot Act" and are working assiduously to ensconce themselves as the first and foremost political force in America. It's time, Piper says, to stop them. And to stop them, we need to identify them---now, before it's too late.

U.S. funding tech firms that help Mideast dissidents evade government censors Washington Post, by Ian Shapira --- The Obama administration may not be lending arms to dissidents in the Middle East, but it is offering aid in another critical way: helping them surf the Web anonymously as they seek to overthrow their governments. Federal agencies – such as the State Department, the Defense Department and the Broadcasting Board of Governors – have been funding a handful of technology firms that allow people to get online without being tracked or to visit news or social media sites that governments have blocked. Planned Regime Change in Libya

Planned Regime Change in Libya - by Stephen Lendman

A March 25 White House press release announced Obama's planned March 28 national TV speech:

"to update the American people on the situation in Libya, including the actions we've taken with allies and partners to protect the Libyan people from the brutality of Moammar Qaddafi, the transition to NATO command and control, and our policy going forward."

Imagine the hypocrisy. US-style "humanitarian intervention" reigns death and destruction "to protect the Libyan people." Recall how "shock and awe" protected Iraqis, how war on Afghanistan helps Afghans and neighboring Pakistanis from predatory drone and ground attacks. Libyans are now tasting imperial viciousness firsthand.

In fact, all US wars are imperial, not humanitarian, a long discredited propaganda ruse major media reports don't explain. Instead they cheerlead for war no matter how lawless, mindless, destructive or counterproductive, spreading malicious misinformation to justify intervention, concealing or downplaying the fallout from all conflicts let alone why they're waged.

As a previous article explained, this one's for regime change like others, to replace one despot with another, control the entire Mediterranean Basin, colonize Libya, perhaps balkanize it, control its oil, gas and other strategic resources, exploit its people, privatize state industries, and establish new US bases for greater regional control.

Gaddafi's Removal Planned in 2010

On March 25, Voltairenet.org headlined, "French plans to topple Gaddafi on track since last November," saying:

"According to right-wing Italian journalist Franco Bechis, plans to spark the Benghazi rebellion were initiated by French intelligence services in November 2010." The progressive ComeDonChisciotte's Miguel Martinez explained that Italy's secret services backed the effort.

"Voltaire Network wishes to point out that Paris promptly paired up with London in its scheme to overthrow Gaddafi (Franco-British expeditionary force). This plan was recalibrated in the context of the Arab revolutions," now controlled by Washington for its own purposes.

Bechis explained the timeline from October 20, 2010 - January 22, 2011, saying Nouri Mesmari, Gaddafi's chief of protocol, "turned himself over to the French secret service, and according to the Italians, he masterminded the revolution against Gaddafi. The document was leaked to the Italian newspaper Libero."

It explained that he revealed "inside information about the regime as well as an account of who's who in Libya and who they should or should not contact." As a result, "by mid-January the French" were ready to begin ousting Gaddafi. The campaign began weeks before the US-led NATO attack.

On March 25, London Daily Mail Online writers David Williams, Tim Shipman and Daily Mail Reporter said before bombing began "it was revealed that hundreds of British special forces troops have been deployed deep inside Libya targeting Colonel Gaddafi's forces - and more are on standby."

"While Chancellor George Osborne repeated that UK ground troops would not be involved, the Daily Mail can reveal there are an estimated 350 already mounting covert operations," along with US Special Forces and Egyptian commandos.

"It is understood that just under 250 UK special forces soldiers and their support have been in Libya since before the launch of air strikes to enforce the no-fly zone against Gaddafi's forces," but they arrived well before its imposition.

Another 100 now supplement the original contingent, comprised of Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) paratroopers. They're drawn from SAS (Special Air Service) and SBS (Special Boat Service) personnel, re-supplied by airdrops from Cyprus. Moreover, 800 Royal Marines "are on five days' notice to deploy to the Mediterranean," a clear sign of impending invasion with 4,000 US marines deployed nearby to join them.

Libya's Rebel Opposition Forces: Democrats They're Not

A London Telegraph Rob Crilly March 23 article headlined, "Libya: it wasn't supposed to be like this in free Benghazi," saying:

So-called rebels "took no chances. They put a knife to the throat of (a) driver before hauling the three men and one woman from (his) car, dragging them through the street into a nearby mosque for a rough round of interrogation."

Inside they were beaten until they admitted planning an attack on the mosque, whether or not true. "It wasn't supposed to be like this in free Benghazi....Rebel leaders admit that dozens of Gaddafi supporters have been arrested or killed."

Every night, vigilante gangs "mop up (suspected) pro-Gaddafi elements." Foreign workers long ago fled the city. Most refugees, in fact, are foreign workers, not Libyan nationals, what major media reports don't explain.

Under rebel control, Benghazi residents are terrorized, many "too frightened to drive through the dark streets at night, fearing a shakedown or worse at the proliferating checkpoints." One man said unless they know you, they assume you're pro-Gaddafi.

Moreover, about 1.5 million black African migrant workers feel trapped under suspicion of supporting the wrong side. Numbers of them have been attacked, some hunted down, dragged from apartments, beaten and killed. So-called "revolutionaries" and "freedom fighters" are, in fact, rampaging gunmen committing atrocities airbrushed from mainstream reports, unwilling to reveal the new Libya if Gaddafi is deposed.

In his latest article, Webster Tarpley supplied more information headlining, "The CIA's Libya Rebels: The Same Terrorists who Killed US NATO Troops in Iraq," saying:

Already France and Portugal recognized anti-Gaddafi rebels "as the sole legitimate representative of the Libyan people." The names of most of their 30 + delegates aren't revealed. Opposition elements are an armed force, backed by Washington, France and Britain, the main co-belligerents.

A 2007 West Point study examined their backgrounds as "foreign guerrilla fighters - jihadis or mujahedin, including suicide bombers - crossing the Syrian border into Iraq during the 2006 - 2007 timeframe, under the auspices of....Al Qaeda."

Study findings are based on about 600 Al Qaeda captured personnel files by US forces in 2007. Most came from Saudi Arabia, others from Syria, Yemen, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, and Libya alone supplying almost one-fifth of them, more per capita by far than other regional states. Diverted now from fighting America in Iraq, they were recruited, armed and funded to oust Gaddafi.

A previous article discussed their National Libyan Council leadership, a so-called "transitional government," accessed through the following link:

http://sjlendman.blogspot.com/2011/03/imperial-war-on-libya.html

Tarpley believes the Harabi tribe may be trying "to seize dominance over the" others. "The Harabi are already practically hegemonic among the tribes of Cyrenaica (Libya's eastern coastal region). At the center of the Harabi Confederation is the Obeidat tribe, which is divided into 15 sub-tribes." Harabi apparently has links to violent elements in Benghazi. They're former US enemies, now allies against Gaddafi to oust him.

However, that begs the question. Will forces opposing US dominance, acquiesce once its imperial hand is evident, or will they resist later the way they're now doing. It's a consideration perhaps not planned for in Washington, London and Paris. In the fullness of time we'll know, including whether imperial forces unleashed a tiger they can't control.

Yet Council on Foreign Relations' (CFR) member Charles Kupchan told IPS, "(T)he six million dollar question is where is this heading and I don't think we have a clear sense of it."

As he knows but didn't say, of course we do. It's not humanitarian as he states. It's to terrorize Libyans until Gaddadi's ousted, then toughen things when he's gone as in Iraq and Afghanistan to assure Washington's hegemonic control. Allied with junior partners Britain and France, they'll carve up Libya for profit, crushing resistance mercilessly. It's how America operates globally, including at home where democracy is just a figure of speech, not reality.

US-Led Libyan Ground Assault Planned

US-Led Libyan Ground Assault Planned - by Stephen Lendman

In his weekly March 26 address, Obama said:

"As I pledged at the outset, the role of American forces has been limited. We are not putting any ground forces into Libya....And as agreed this week, responsibility for this operation is being transferred from the United States to our NATO allies and partners."

Earlier he said:

"United States forces are conducting a limited and well-defined mission in support of international efforts to protect civilians and prevent a humanitarian disaster."

As an earlier article explained, American aggression caused a humanitarian crisis. Moreover, the alleged NATO handover is a ruse. NATO is code language for Washington, the Pentagon. It's America's tool, its "missile," reigning death and destruction across Libya and other operational theaters. European allies concur. They're more pawns than partners. Reports now suggest they'll participate in a late April or early May ground operation if air attacks don't oust Gaddafi.

On March 25, Russia's RIA Novosti news service headlined, "Ground operation in Libya could start in April - Russian Intelligence," saying:

According to an unnamed high-ranking Russian intelligence official, "(t)he international coalition force is planning a ground operation that could start in late April. Information coming via different channels shows that NATO countries, with active participation of Britain and the United States, are developing a plan....From all indications, (it'll) be launched if the alliance fails to force Gaddafi....to capitulate."

The official estimates a late April-early May timetable. UN Resolution 1973 prohibits an occupation force, but authorizes "all necessary measures," including boots on the ground. Hawkish Western military analysts urge it, a March 25 Wall Street Journal report saying:

"The history of air-only military actions is that they rarely, if ever, defeat an adversary without" ground forces.

On March 26, Rick Rozoff's Stop NATO web site mentioned reports of US forces in Libya with a planned ground invasion coming next month. Various March 26 sources were cited, including:

(1) Sofia News Agency reporting:

"US forces are rumored to be already present on the ground in Libya," despite official denials. According to Reserve Colonel David Hand, American soldiers have been in Libya for 12 days. US intelligence Colonel Tony Scheffer confirmed it.

(2) Voice of Russia's Alexander Vatutin said:

"We are witnessing an attempt to seize oil and gas reserves by means of force. Apparently, coalition forces are pursuing targets other than humanitarian operations...." Dozens of civilian deaths are reported.

"In the meantime, NATO has suggested the possibility of a ground operation in Libya unless Gaddafi chooses to surrender. The military are guided by the Second World War saying 'Put on the Ground' which means you can never expect to win unless you reach the enemy's positions on the ground." About 4,000 US marines are positioned in the Mediterranean to invade.

According to Russian Strategic Research Institute's Azhdar Kurtov, "a ground operation is inevitable" whether or not Gaddafi stays or goes, to seize Libya's strategic oil and gas reserves.

(3) AFP reported:

Washington and NATO partners may supply weapons to opposition forces. According to the Washington Post, "recently withdrawn US ambassador to Libya" Gene Cretz said "administration officials were having 'the full gamut' of discussions on 'potential assistance we might offer,' both on the non-lethal and the lethal side."

(4) RIA Novosti said:

"Any foreign military ground operation in Libya will be considered as occupying the country, Russia's envoy to NATO Dmitry Rogozin said on Saturday," in violation of Resolution 1973.

(5) Russia Today reported St. Petersburg State University Professor Guman Isayev saying:

Libya, like Iraq, is becoming a "black hole....As soon as it became clear that insurgents lost the battle," Resolution 1973 was passed, providing wide latitude for intervention. As a result, "Libya may cease to exist, de facto, the way Iraq did. On the other hand, it's unlikely that Gaddafi's regime can be overthrown by air strikes alone. The hopes that insurgents (could oust him) are failing despite active external support."

On Monday, March 28, Obama will address the nation on the Libyan conflict. Expect none of this to be mentioned, just the usual boilerplate propaganda about "humanitarian intervention," when, in fact, Washington's aims are always imperial.

As previous articles explained, a protracted, destructive conflict is likely, including mass casualties so America can solidify its grip on the entire Mediterranean Basin, exploiting its resources and people freely.

NATO: America's Imperial Tool

NATO: America's Imperial Tool - by Stephen Lendman

In 1999, Nobel laureate Harold Pinter called America's bombing and dismemberment of Yugoslavia "barbaric (and despicable), another blatant and brutal assertion of US power using NATO as its missile (to consolidate) American domination of Europe."

Against Iraq and Afghanistan it's to dominate Eurasia, and against Libya for greater regional hegemony, including resource control, privatization of state industries, new Pentagon bases for future imperial wars, and deterring any democratic spark from emerging.

Obama lied saying:

"United States forces are conducting a limited and well-defined mission in support of international efforts to protect civilians and prevent a humanitarian disaster."

In fact, he caused a humanitarian crisis by killing civilians, the situation worsening daily as deaths and destruction increase.

"We will seek a rapid, but responsible, transition of operations to coalition, regional, or international organizations that are postured to continue activities as may be necessary to realize (stated) objectives," he added.

False.

Giving NATO operational no-fly command is a ruse. NATO is the Pentagon, America's missile to reign death and destruction on targeted nations directly or through proxies. Washington planned, orchestrated and leads naked aggression on Libya. The announced handover changes nothing. European allies are more pawns than partners. They mostly go along to get along.

America remains in charge for what promises to be a protracted, destructive, expensive war to replace one despot with another. Like Iraq and Afghanistan, it'll likely cost billions of dollars at a time homeland needs are neglected to hand America's wealth to Wall Street, other corporate favorites, and militarists for endless wars - lawless naked aggression each time.

Moreover, humanitarian intervention is cover for mass killing and destruction. The more the better to assure corporate crooks huge contracts to rebuild, then on to the next war, and the next one, ad infinitum, America's addiction, the major media its cheerleading chorus.

NATO, An Alliance for War, not Peace

Established in April 1949, NATO calls itself a "political and military alliance for peace and security." In fact, it was more for offense than defense. Cold War hysteria was contrived to incite fear and assure an arms race for corporate enrichment. Napoleon once said, "Men are moved by two levers only: fear and self-interest."

Until the Soviet Union dissolved, communism was the alleged enemy. Today it's terrorism, as bogus now as then. Both, however, were used for hugely profitable imperial wars from Korea to Libya to numerous proxy ones, as well as trillions of dollars for military readiness - in fact, scandalous amounts in America without enemies for justification since WW II.

Strategically intervening under US control, NATO, in fact, threatens world peace and human survival. In November 2010, Robert Griffiths, general secretary of Britain's Communist Party (CPB) said:

Under NATO, "(a) global military and reconnaissance infrastructure is being created to support US, British and western European big business interests, especially energy, financial and armaments monopolies." What began "as a cold war provocation against a non-existent Soviet threat (now) invent(s) or exaggerat(es) threats from so-called failed or rogue states, Islamic fundamentalism and cyber-terrorism."

Petre Ignat, general secretary of the New Communist Party of Romania, called for NATO's disbandment, saying:

"We cannot and will not recognize such a murderous alliance, with such a horrible track record....which includes the murder of thousands of innocent civilians in places like Bosnia, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan. We cannot and will not recognize an alliance which, through its aggressive policy of expanding East and setting up new military bases there, through its gross interference in other countries' internal affairs, through its gross violation of international law, can only increase the likelihood of an inter-imperialist war between Western imperialism and emerging capitalist powers, like Russia."

Its original member countries include America, the five (1948) Treaty of Brussels states (Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg), Canada, Portugal, Italy, Denmark and Iceland. It's now expanded to 28 states and dozens of partners, threatening world peace and stability.

Membership, however, is a bonanza for Western and Israeli weapons industries as current members and entering states must maintain modern arsenals to state-of-the art readiness, despite no enemies except ones Washington creates to wage wars.

On April 4, 2009, NATO's 60th anniversary, a major international demonstration was held in Strasbourg, France under the slogan, "No to War - No to NATO." Participating organizations included peace groups, global justice movements, trade unions, students, and others against NATO's aggressive military and nuclear policies.

Rather than providing security, NATO has been an obstacle to world peace. In a public statement, the Strasbourg coalition said:

NATO "is a vehicle for US-led use of force with military bases on all continents, bypassing the United Nations and the system of international law, accelerating militarization and escalating arms expenditures."

Its member countries account for up to 80% of all purchases, used for imperial wars called "humanitarian intervention."

"To achieve our vision of a peaceful world, we reject military responses to global and regional crises," real or contrived. "We refuse to live under the terror of nuclear weapons, and reject a new arms race." World security depends on peaceful cooperation and coexistence, impossible to achieve under NATO.

Today, bogus threats are used to justify its existence, including "terrorism," instability, arms trafficking, and proliferation of ballistic missiles, nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction, mostly in Western and Russian arsenals.

Moreover, new justifications are exploited, NATO citing:

"Key environmental and resource constraints, including health risks, climate change, water scarcity and increasing energy needs (that) further shape the future security environment in areas of concern to (member states) and have the potential to affect significantly (their) planning and operations."

In addition, other areas, including the "ability to prevent, detect, defend against and recover from cyber-attacks (and) assessing the impact of emerging security technologies."

At the same time, NATO pays lip service to "creating the conditions for a world without nuclear weapons" when, in fact, members like America proliferate them. Hypocritically it then states, "As long as there are nuclear weapons in the world, NATO will remain a nuclear power" because Washington, Britain and France won't abandon them.

Rick Rozoff runs the Stop Nato web site:

"an international email news list that examines, from an adversarial position, the expansion of (NATO) and affiliated and allied military blocs into and throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, the Caucasus, Central and South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific, Africa, the so-called Greater Middle East and beyond."

As explained above, he calls NATO "the first attempt in history to establish an aggressive global military formation," comprising one-third of world nations as members or partners on five continents. Stop NATO's purpose is "anti-militarist, international and internationalist." The ultimate aim is survival.

NATO wars, in fact, are America's for greater reach. Against Libya it's to control the only North African Mediterranean state outside its partnership, and only one of five African states not under AFRICOM.

Replacing Gaddafi with a subservient puppet will assure its entry, giving Washington unchallenged Mediterranean Basin dominance, a strategically important waterway bordering three continents. Securing control over Iran, Syria and Lebanon successfully will achieve overall regional hegemony.

NATO's European dominance and eastward expansion especially threatens Russia. Its new Military Doctrine listed "main external threats of war" concerns, including:

-- NATO's global expansion, including to Russia's borders;

-- destabilizing nations and regions;

-- deploying foreign forces on territories and adjacent waters bordering Russia and its allies;

-- deploying offensive strategic missile systems targeting Russia;

-- militarizing space;

-- deploying strategic non-nuclear precision weapons;

-- interfering in the internal affairs of Russia and its allies;

-- proliferating weapons of mass destruction, including missiles, related technology, and nuclear weapons;

-- violating international agreements;

-- not ratifying and implementing others on arms limitations and reductions; and

-- escalating armed conflicts and using military force in areas bordering Russia and its allies.

As a result, at the February 2010 Munich Conference, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said:

After the Soviet Union and Warsaw Pact dissolved, "a real opportunity emerged to make the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) a full-fledged organization providing equal security for all states of the Euro-Atlantic area. However, the opportunity was missed, because the choice was made in favor" of expanding NATO eastward, threatening Russia and its allies.

For example, Yugoslavia's 1999 bombing violated international law and NATO's charter "when a group of OSCE countries....committed aggression against another OSCE country." Again in August 2008 in the Georgian - South Ossetian conflict "in violation of the Helsinki Final Act," prohibiting use of force. US-led NATO, in fact, proliferates it globally, Libya its latest adventure, threatening the entire region and beyond.

A Final Comment

It's no exaggeration calling NATO a global menace, waging war, not peace. It should be abolished, dismantled, not expanded. Today, it reserves the right to use nuclear weapons unilaterally in violation of the 1996 International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling stating:

"....the threat or use of nuclear weapons would generally be contrary to the rules of international law applicable to armed conflict, and in particular the principles of humanitarian law," despite no "comprehensive and universal prohibition."

Operating lawlessly and recklessly as America's "missile," NATO threatens world peace, stability, security and survival. Disbanding it is more important than ever. Besides millions of Iraqi and Afghan victims, how many Libyan deaths are needed to prove it.

Target Israel, Not Libya

Target Israel, not Libya - by Stephen Lendman

On April 9, 1986, Ronald Reagan called Muammar el Gaddafi the "mad dog of the Middle East." Today, after an imposed no-fly zone, war rages to remove him. For decades, he ruled despotically, punishing enemies, rewarding friends. His days may now be numbered. Washington won't quit until he's gone, no matter how many corpses it takes to achieve it.

In fact, however, a far greater Middle East menace threatens the entire region, the Israeli war machine based in Jerusalem. Besides illegally occupying Palestine, brutalizing Palestinians daily, persecuting Israeli Arabs, threatening and attacking its neighbors, its longstanding plan calls for dividing and dominating the region.

In fact, it's nightmarish vision calls for partitioning Arab nations into small states - balkanizing them along ethnic and sectarian lines as Israeli satellites, controllable satraps. The idea is modeled after the Ottoman Empire's Millet system under which local authorities governed confessional communities with separate ethnic identities.

Israel's 1967 Golan seizure followed the plan. So did the 1978 and 1982 Lebanon invasions, using preemptive belligerence against regional states, targeting them to be weakened, fragmented, divided, and reconfigured under Israeli control.

However, instead of sanctioning Israel, demanding Gaza's siege end, and imposing no-fly zone protection against regular air and ground attacks, Washington is Israel's paymaster/partner, providing generous funding and arms, supporting its killing machine lawlessly.

As a result, Israel is a modern day Sparta, able to mobilize over 600,000 combatants in 72 hours, equipped with nuclear and other state-of-the-art weapons, as well as strong Western backing to do what it pleases. Moreover, accomplishing it involves indoctrinating Israeli youths to be warriors, a process to prepare underage boys and girls for future mandatory service.

They're taught to believe force and belligerence are preferred ways to solve political problems. Their education highlights it, including by uniformed soldiers in classrooms. Moreover, teachers, especially principals, are retired career officers, and school walls are adorned with names and photos of fallen heros among their graduates. In addition, field trips for all ages visit military memorials on former battlegrounds.

Curricula and textbooks also reflect militarism, from kindergarten through high schools with mandatory programs in all state-run ones called "preparation for the IDF." They feature training, glorifying military heros and conquests, while, at the same time, vilifying Arabs, proselytizing kids to hate them.

They learn early and it sticks, disciplining them for later conscription, combat, and a lifetime of military support. In fact, by raising children in a hostile, violent environment, they're conditioned to wage war against anyone called a state enemy, whether or not true.

As a result, Palestinians pay dearly under suffocating military occupation, inflicting daily violence, targeted killings, mass arrests, land dispossessions, displacement, torture, severe poverty and unemployment, as well as violation of their basic civil and human rights, notably in Gaza under siege, suffering slow-motion genocide from depravation.

In addition, regular incursions and attacks occur, Israel acting with impunity. In America especially, not a harsh word, let alone condemnation, calls for sanctions, isolation, and no-fly zone protection to prevent further Gaza air and ground assaults.

As a result, from March 10 - 16 alone, Israeli air strikes killed two Palestinian workers, wounded two others, and destroyed three non-military buildings. Other Gaza farmers, fishermen and civilians were also targeted.

In addition, peaceful West Bank demonstrations were attacked with tear gas and rubber bullets. Two international human rights activists were arrested, and 47 separate incursions were conducted in Palestinian communities, resulting in 66 arrests, including six children.

In the West Bank, on March 17, with government approval, Israeli settlers unleashed a "day of rage," attacking Palestinians in response to a recent settler family killing, arbitrarily blaming them with no evidence.

As a result, Palestinians were attacked with rocks and Molotov cocktails, and a home was firebombed. In addition, four cars and a tractor were burned, another seven cars damaged. Numerous injuries were also reported, and armed settlers and Israeli soldiers uprooted hundreds of olive trees near Bethlehem.

On March 14, a Palestinian was stabbed, a shop set ablaze, and cars near Hebron were stoned. On March 20, an 11-year old girl was run over en route to school.

Moreover, Israel announced 500 new settlement units and intensified home demolitions in response to the killings, despite no evidence linking them to Palestinians.

On March 21, Israeli air attacks again shelled and bombed Gazan civilian sites, wounding 15 civilians, including two women and two children. Dozens of homes, seven stores, several cars, a municipal building, a metal workshop, and a plastic waste recycling facility sustained total, heavy or partial damage.

On March 22, more attacks killed four, including two children, wounding 11, including eight children, three seriously. Members of the al-Quds Brigades were also targeted near the Abdul Aziz al-Rantisi mosque in eastern Gaza City, killing four.

On March 24, Israeli warplanes conducted two more attacks, targeting a Rafah city training site, causing heavy damage. No deaths or injuries were reported. In addition, according to the SAFA News Agency, air strikes hit a tunnel east of Rafah's Salah Al-Din gate. Four missiles were also fired at a Hamas military site in southern Gaza City, and Israeli attacks destroyed electric lines in several neighborhoods.

Israeli radio claimed Gaza launched rocket and mortar shells prompted the response. Islamic Jihad took responsibility, saying it acted "in retaliation for the ongoing Israeli aggression." Hamas says it's committed to a truce provided Israel stops attacking. Otherwise, it maintains its right of self-defense.

According to the International Middle East Media Center:

"Israeli politicians are said to be considering a further escalation, perhaps resulting in a 'Cast Lead 2.' " Given Washington's war on Libya, besides ongoing ones in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, plus numerous Middle East uprisings, an Israeli offensive now seems unlikely. But don't rule it out later at a more opportune time.

More War Ahead?

Most often, Israel uses real or contrived provocations to unleash violence or wage war. A March 23 Jerusalem bombing might, in fact, have been one if a major assault was planned. The incident at a crowded bus stop killed one, injuring 30 or more others, three seriously. Haaretz reported a likely explosive device "hidden in a bag next to a telephone pole." On March 24, Ma'an News said Israeli police will remain "on high alert," following the attack. An unnamed official claimed "authorities know who was behind" it, the usual suspects for sure.

For nearly 44 years, the above incidents and occasional intense conflict highlight daily Occupied Palestine life. It reflects sustained harshness and brutality, but instead of condemning and demanding it stop, Washington generously rewards it, at the same time attacking targets of opportunity like Gaddafi in pursuit of imperial aims.

Always, innocent civilians suffer most, including women and children, the main casualties of wars and violence, the hidden victims little discussed, considered, or bothered about in mainstream reports, supporting the worst of imperial slaughter and destruction.

As a result, thousands of Palestinians globally endorse a third Intifada, inspired by other regional uprisings for democratic change. In early March a new Facebook page was created supporting it saying, "Palestine will be freed and we will free it."

Within days, the page had nearly 140,000 "Likes" toward a one million goal, then maintaining momentum for many more - a global groundswell for ending occupation and democratic change for an oppressed people long denied it. It's coming because popular energy drives it toward fruition, but not easily, quickly, or without more pain and suffering, what Palestinians have long endured.

A Final Comment

On March 22, Palestinians got more reasons to act after the Knesset passed two discriminatory laws. One called the Acceptance to Communities Bill lets small Galilee and Negev communities maintain racist admissions committees to exclude potential Arab and other unwanted residents from living on Israeli confiscated land.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) said passage "will anchor discrimination and separatism in Israeli law," based on vague criteria, including "fitting with the life of the community" or "fitting with the social fabric," meaning no Arabs need apply. Or perhaps single parents, disabled persons, same-sex couples, Mizrachi Jews, or others deemed undesirable.

The other is called the Nakba Law, officially the Budget Principles Law (Amendment 39) - Reducing Budgeting Support for Activities Contrary to the Principles of the State, letting Finance Ministry bureaucrats fine municipalities and public institutions for:

-- publicly supporting organizations commemorating the Nakba, Israel's Independence Day;

-- opposing the term "Jewish and democratic State;" or

-- violating State symbols.

ACRI said "(t)his bill severely damages freedom of political expression, freedom of artistic expression, and freedom of protest, which are basic rights and are essential to the very existence of a democracy."

Of course, Israel isn't a democracy and never was, affording rights solely to Jews, increasingly fewer of them, the more privileged like in America. Others more than ever are on their own sink or swim, the reality major media in both countries downplay or don't report.

Cheerleading for War

Cheerleading for War - by Stephen Lendman

When America goes to war, managed news goes with it spreading rumors, half-truths, misinformation, and willful deception about targeted nations, regimes and leaders, whether despots or democrats. Whoever first said it, the first casualty of war is truth, and then some as John Pilger once observed saying:

"Journalism is the first casualty. Not only that: it has become a weapon of war, a virulent censorship (and willful misreporting) that goes unrecognised in the United States, Britain and other democracies; censorship by omission, whose power is such that, in war, it can mean the difference between life and death for people in faraway countries...."

Managed news, in fact, jeopardizes free and open societies by substituting fiction for facts, carefully filtered reports for truth, and cheerleading propaganda for real journalism. As a result, wars of aggression are called liberating ones. Civil liberties are suppressed for our own good, and patriotism means going along with lawless governments, reigning death and destruction on defenseless nations for imperial, not noble, reasons.

Media support backs them, notably in America where dominant electronic and print reporting marches in lockstep with government policy, right or wrong.

As a result, dominant information sources (the major media) are in crisis as leading media scholar/critic/activist Robert McChesney once observed, saying:

"Going to war is arguably the single most important decision any society can make. The track record of the US news media in the twentieth century is that they often went along with fraudulent efforts to get the nation into one war or another" from WW I to today.

Each time with no exceptions, "administration(s) in power believed that (truth wouldn't enlist) support (for) war. So they lied. The Pentagon Papers (exposed it about Southeast Asia) in shocking detail."

Post-9/11 through Obama's war on Libya, "the very debate over whether to go to war" is absent. Obama decides. The media salute, and public opinion is manipulated to say amen. Never discussed are justifiable reasons, choosing diplomacy over militarism, America acting as judge, jury and executioner, and cui bono fruits of war. Without them, they'd be none.

Said another way, absent the power and profit benefits, who'd wage them, especially capitalist America, generously enriching war profiteers that fund politicians for bottom line friendly policies.

As a result, government is unaccountable to the electorate. Democracy is the best money can buy, and wars are always imperial, not liberating ones, especially ones America wages.

Today, round the clock media coverage supports them. Long before television, media critic AJ Liebling said, "People everywhere confuse what they read in newspapers with news." Today it's mostly TV, the dominant managed news source, supporting power, not truth, functioning as a propaganda system for elitist interests, especially on matters of war and peace.

Cheerleading 101

A March 21 New York Times editorial headlined, "At War in Libya" highlights it, saying:

"Col Muammar el-Qaddafi has long been a thug and a murderer who has never paid for his many crimes, including the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103." Thug and murderer, yes. Downing Pan Am Flight 103 proved false. He had nothing to do with it, clear evidence The Times suppresses to willfully lie to readers.

Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi was bogusly convicted for the December 21, 1988 bombing, then released last August because of terminal cancer and sent home to Libya. In fact, Scottish judges who convicted him knew he was innocent, saying so in their final opinion. In addition, the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission's investigation uncovered multiple reasons for believing his conviction was a gross miscarriage of justice, including no credible evidence of his involvement.

No witnesses, video, documentation, fingerprints or other corroboration linked him to the bomb inside a suitcase downing the plane. Even the court admitted:

"The absence of any explanation of the method by which the primary suitcase might have been placed on board KM180 (Air Malta to Frankfort) is a major difficulty'" in the case.

Further, misreporting claimed Gaddafi admitted fault. In fact, he said Libya would take responsibility for the crime, solely to have international sanctions against him lifted.

The dominant media know it, including The Times, but never reported it. Instead, they distort, exaggerate, lie, and, and suppress uncomfortable truths to support state and corporate interests, even at the cost of innocent lives.

As a result, The Times editorial praised Obama's decision to bomb, never questioning why, whether alternatives should have been considered, or rule of law considerations. Instead, it admitted:

-- "no perfect formula for military intervention;"

-- the importance of "us(ing) it sparingly;" and

-- abstaining in Bahrain, Yemen, other regional uprisings, and Occupied Palestine is justified.

In contrast, it called Libya "a specific case," saying Gaddafi "is erratic, widely reviled, armed with mustard gas and has a history of supporting terrorism," ignoring other worse regional despots than him, notably Israeli leaders armed with nuclear weapons, other sophisticated ones, no shyness about using them, regularly attacking Palestinians, besieging Gazans, and waging lawless wars on Lebanon and Gaza with impunity.

In fact, Times and other major media reporters, op-ed, and editorial writers wholeheartedly support them, a chilling example of hypocrisy and biased journalism.

On March 23 Washington Post editorial headlined, "Confused in Libya," saying:

"The only solution to Libya's crisis....is the removal of Mr. Gaddafi from power. (Obama) still seems to lack a coherent strategy for accomplishing that aim." He needs to "(e)xercise US leadership....many (unnamed) Arabs have been puzzled and even outraged by (his) manifest reluctance to support a revolution (in fact, a US/UK-instigated insurrection), aimed at overthrowing one of the region's most vile dictatorships," ignoring other worse regional ones.

On March 20, a Wall Street Journal op-ed headlined, "GOP on Libya: What's Obama's Goal?" saying:

"Republican lawmakers are glad (Obama) is intervening in Libya, but they're not happy with how (he's) carry(ing) out (his) decision to do so." The same day, House Speaker John Boehner said:

Obama "has a moral obligation to stand with those who seek freedom from oppression and self-government for their people," what's, in fact, absent throughout the region, yet unmentioned in media commentaries or official statements.

Fox News contributor Bill Kristol wants ground troops in Libya as well as bombing. Ahead of hostilities, convicted Iran-Contra felon Elliot Abrams called Obama's response "feeble....a non-response," promoting war based on false information he cited. Bill O'Reilly headlined a commentary, "Getting Gaddafi," wanting him ousted for the wrong reasons. Other figures on the left and right agree, supporting a lawless agenda to do it.

Peter Dale Scott expressed other concerns, comparing Libya to Iraq, saying:

"Both countries had a monstrous dictator. Both were subjected to no-fly zones. (They) don't deter the dictator. In due course, this evolves into a massive intervention in which the government is overthrown and the opposition goes into an internal civil war while simultaneously attacking the invaders."

Diana Johnstone asked "Is This Kosovo All Over Again?" saying:

Despite enormous differences, disturbing similarities include:

-- right or wrong, vilifying a leader;

-- "the 'we must do something' chorus;"

-- evoking "crimes against humanity (and) genocide;"

-- "leftist (narrow vision) idiocy," mindlessly cheerleading for war;

-- "refugees," using over-the-top unexplained exaggeration;

-- resurrecting bin Laden, despite compelling evidence he's dead; and

-- spurning negotiations, mediation, and diplomacy to pursue war, Washington's favorite pastime.

As a result, expect protracted hostilities ahead, perhaps killing thousands, injuring and disabling many more, and causing widespread destruction and contamination from toxic munitions.

Once ended, Gaddafi may be gone, either dead or tried like Saddam then killed, and Libyans left no better off than Iraqis and Afghans, suffering horrifically under imperial occupation, a fate no one deserves.

Western Aggression on Libya

Western Aggression on Libya - by Stephen Lendman

Make no mistake. Another Washington-led resource war targets Libya's riches, besides wanting new US base locations for greater regional dominance.

America doesn't covet regional sun, sand and sea. "Humanitarian intervention" is a lie. So are notions about peace, not war, liberation, equity, justice, and other democratic values. Washington tolerates none of them abroad or at home, plundering the world roguishly.

All US presidents are war criminals. Obama is one of the worst, doubling Bush's lawlessness, adding Pakistan and Libya aggression to Iraq and Afghanistan, spending $1.5 trillion annually for militarism plus multi-trillion dollar handouts to Wall Street crooks, while pleading poverty to cut essential homeland social benefits.

As a result, it's no exaggeration saying America is on a fast-track to tyranny and ruin. It's no longer a fit place to live in. Young people have a choice - leave or be exploited, a shocking indictment of a corrupted, declining, lawless nation.

Unchecked Global Militarism

Waging wars at home and/or abroad every year in its history, a permanent war agenda has been policy since WW II. A previous article explained, accessed through the following link:

http://sjlendman.blogspot.com/2010/03/americas-permanent-war-agenda.html

Historians Charles Beard and Gore Vidal called it "perpetual war for perpetual peace," at all times concealing the real agenda. As a result, since WW II, America's been a global menace, today calling "terrorism" the main threat. In fact, it's bogus nonsense to justify militarism, homeland repression, imperial wars, wanton destruction, and lawless killings, heading the nation for moral, political and economic ruin.

In his book, "Another Century of War," Gabriel Kolko observed:

"The way America's leaders are running the nation's foreign policy is not creating peace or security at home or stability abroad. The reverse is the case: it's interventions have been counterproductive."

In his newest book, "The World in Crisis," he said America's decline "began after the Korean War, was continued in relation to Cuba, and was greatly accelerated in Vietnam - but (Bush II did) much to exacerbate it," what Obama extended further.

No wonder Kolko believes US influence is declining globally. Other nations will surpass its "economic might." As a result, America's "century of domination is now ending." Moreover, each new imperial war hastens it. The fools running the country don't give a damn as long as short-term gains are possible, no matter how many corpses it takes to achieve them.

In his noted trilogy, Chalmers Johnson called American imperialism a "suicide option," noting its undermining effects, explaining what he called:

"isolation, overstretch, the uniting of local and global forces opposed to imperialism, and in the end bankruptcy," combined with authoritarian rule, a fantasy democracy, social decay, and loss of Bill of Rights freedoms.

Immanuel Wallerstein thinks America "has been a fading global power since the 1970s, and the US response to the (9/11) terrorist attacks has accelerated this decline. (The) economic, political and military factors that contributed to US hegemony are the same (ones) that will inexorably produce the coming US decline."

Obama's latest Middle East adventurism accelerates it further, compounded by destructive homeland policies, notably economic ones plunging Main Street into deepening depression affecting growing millions. Wallerstein, in fact, believes capitalism's contradictions will doom it, perhaps in the next four or five decades.

What replaces it, however, may be better or worse, what he calls "hierarchical and exploitative" or "relatively democratic and egalitarian." No one knows which one, he says, but today's destructive system won't survive, especially given its permanent war agenda.

Besides letting Wall Street run the country and loot the treasury, war takes precedence over everything at a time America has no enemies. As a result, growing millions lost jobs, incomes, civil rights and futures. Perhaps desperation will one day will erupt.

America's leaders trashed people for power and profit. The criminal class in Washington is bipartisan. There's not a dime's worth of difference between Democrats and Republicans on all major issues, especially corporate favoritism and imperial wars.

War Rages in Libya

On March 21, New York Times writers Elisabeth Bumiller and Kareem Fahim headlined, "US-Led Assault Nears Goal in Libya," saying:

Bombing and cruise missile attacks continue. In defiance of the Constitution's Article 1, Section 8 letting only Congress declare war, Obama "said in a letter to (lawmakers) that he had the power to (order) strikes, which would be limited in duration and scope, and that preventing a humanitarian disaster in Libya was in the national interest."

False! Obama lawlessly created a humanitarian crisis, initially by enlisting, inciting, funding and arming insurgents to generate one, now greatly exacerbated by "shock and awe" bombings. Reportedly, hundreds have been killed, many more injured, as well as extensive destruction, including hospitals, a medical clinic, at least one civilian airport, and perhaps other non-military sites, whether deliberate or accidental. Falling bombs and missiles aren't as accurate as claimed.

Moreover, most casualties are civilians, including many children. In addition, US jets slaughtered noncombatant government forces leaving Benghazi. Gaddafi twice appealed for ceasefire. Washington declined until completing its killing machine mission.

Conveniently in South America, Obama again demanded Gaddafi step down, what growing Arab anger joined by millions globally demand of him and Pentagon high command killers.

International condemnation also is growing, at least rhetorically, responding to widespread public opposition to more war. NATO countries, in fact, are split. Turkey blocked joint action. Norway said it won't participate. Italy may withdraw use of its bases.

Russian Prime Minister Putin called "Operation Odyssey Dawn" a "medieval call to crusade," and UN Resolution 1973 "defective and flawed." South African President Jacob Zuma expressed opposition to "the regime change doctrine (and) foreign occupation of Libya." India called for an immediate ceasefire. Chairing the Security Council in March, China wants more discussion, perhaps reconsideration of Resolution 1973.

On March 21, Reuters said the Security Council "turned down a Libyan request for a special meeting to discuss Western air strikes," when, under its Charter Article 51 mandate, it's required to do so on matters of naked aggression.

Instead, according to an unnamed Council diplomat, a March 24 UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon scheduled briefing will proceed as planned "to receive (his) report about the implementation of Resolution 1973 and will then discuss the situation in Libya," giving America more time to wage war.

On March 22, New York Times writers Elisabeth Bumiller, Kareem Fahim and Alan Cowell headlined, "American (F-15) Warplane Crashes in Libya as Ground Fighting Continues," saying:

Mechanical failure, not hostile fire downed it, with no further explanation. In fact, Gaddafi's surface-to-air (SAM) missile capability very likely shot it down, the Pentagon in denial.

Foreign Forces in Libya

According to Stratfor Global Intelligence, reports suggest "European and Egyptian special operations forces (are) deploying" near Benghazi. Unconfirmed sources say 100 or so Egyptian commandos, in plainclothes, joined opposition rebels in early March, likely at Washington's behest. UK SAS and US Special Forces as well as CIA operatives have been there for many weeks, maybe months as explained above and in earlier articles.

On March 22, the Israeli news site Debka.com said reports about "jubilant Libyan rebels encouraged by (cruise missile attacks) to resume their offensive against Qaddafi's forces Monday were misleading at best." Rebels, in fact, have only one organized platoon, no match against government forces without supportive air strikes, as well as "American, British, French," and perhaps Egyptian and other Arab ground troops joining them. "The rebels must therefore be satisfied with holding Benghazi downtown and a few sectors for as long as they can."

UN Resolution 1973 prohibits a "foreign occupation force." By implication, Western and Arab ones may invade but not stay once hostilities end. Whether large numbers are coming remains conjecture. Given Washington's determination to remove Gaddafi, it's possible, perhaps even claim a reason to stay. Discount nothing when Washington arrives.

Short of killing him, whether Gaddafi falls isn't certain. Libya is very tribal. He has considerable support from half or more of them and the army. They'll lose out if he's gone. As Stratfor explains, he "was very careful to reward his friends and hurt and weaken his enemies, (so) his supporters (are) substantial and motivated."

Moreover, rebel forces aren't "democratic, much less organized or cohesive." It's why Gaddafi routed them. In addition, no-fly zones alone are ineffective. As a result, Saddam's removal took invasion and ground war. Expect it perhaps in Libya, again claiming "humanitarian intervention" with or without Security Council approval, what America prefers but isn't deterred without it.

However, Gaddafi didn't last 42 years by being stupid, "but rather because he speaks to a real and powerful dimension in Libya," and rewards the right people to support him. As a result, nothing ahead is certain. Gaddafi has everything to lose by defeat, including his life. It's incentive enough to hold on.

Moreover, whether "coalition" adhesion sticks as civilian casualties grow is unknown. Bomb and missile diplomacy only goes so far. For sure, it doesn't make friends, especially in a region very uncomfortable about America's presence. Growing anger strongly objects to another Arab state's destruction and colonial takeover.

If he's well hunkered down, it may be what Gaddafi needs to survive. Then maybe not. No one knows for sure. After the Gulf War, Saddam lasted another 12 years. At age 68, matching him may be all Gaddafi needs.

A Final Comment

In his new article titled, "Obama's Bay of Pigs in Libya: Imperial Aggression Shreds the UN Charter," Webster Tarpley states:

"Anglo-American propaganda portrays Qaddafi as a kleptocrat." Perhaps so, yet a UK Daily Mail March 1 Kate Loveys article headlined, "London School of Economics (LSE) takes 1.5 million (pounds) from Gaddafi's son as chief admits embarrassment at relationship with the regime," saying:

Donated by Saif Gaddafi, half the research grant was spent. "And a video has emerged of its leading academics lavishing praise on Colonel Gaddafi, welcoming him as a statesman." Saif, in fact, earned a LSE PhD in 2008 for the Study of Global Governance. The Gaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation donated the funds. The remaining amount will go for scholarships, not returned.

That aside, Tarpley said:

"Libya is one of the most advanced developing countries, ranking 53 on the UN Human Development Index, making it the most developed society in Africa. (It) ranks ahead of Russia (65), Ukraine (69), Brazil (73), Venezuela (75) and Tunisia (81). The rate of incarceration is 61st in the world." By far, America ranks highest, ahead of China with four times its population. Moreover, Libyan longevity "increased by 20 years under" Gaddafi.

Though no democrat, he "shared the nation's oil income better than the rest of OPEC." Perhaps the lesson is that some despots are better ones than others. America supports the worst of them, supplying some generous aid.

Lies, Damn Lies, and Humanitarian Intervention

Lies, Damn Lies, and Humanitarian Intervention - by Stephen Lendman

Masquerading as "humanitarian intervention," Washington launched full-force barbarism on six million Libyans, all endangered by America's latest intervention. More on how below.

Beginning March 19, it was visible. However, months of planning preceded it, including US and UK special forces and intelligence operatives on the ground enlisting, inciting, funding, arming and supporting violent insurrection to oust Gaddafi and replace him with a Washington-controlled puppet like in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere.

The scrip is familiar, playing out now in Libya - full-scale "imperial barbarism," a term James Petras used in a September 2010 article titled, "Imperialism and Imperial Barbarism," saying:

"The organizing principle of imperial barbarism is the idea of total war," including:

-- use of mass destruction weapons, unleashed on Libya as explained below;

-- targeting the entire country and society; and

-- dismantling "the entire civil and military apparatus of the state," replacing it with "colonial officials, paid mercenaries and unscrupulous and corrupt satraps" - puppets, figures As'ad AbuKhalil calls "useful idiots."

Moreover, as Petras explains:

"The entire modern professional class is targeted (and) replaced by retrograde religious-ethnic clans and gangs, susceptible to bribes and booty-shares. All existing modern civil society organizations are pulverized and replaced by crony-plunderers linked to the colonial regime. The entire economy is" disrupted by "shock and awe" bombings and ground attacks, affecting essential civilian infrastructure on the pretext of destroying military and "dual use" targets.

As a result, mass casualties follow, many post-conflict from disease, homelessness, starvation, depravation, and environmental contamination. All wars are ugly, especially modern ones Washington wages, unleashing full force human and overall destruction, mostly affecting noncombatant men, women and children - imperialism's hidden victims.

Already, unknown hundreds of Libyans have been killed, wounded, or disabled, besides countless numbers affected overall. Expect much worse ahead, including violent, US-backed proxy insurgence, perhaps later joined by Pentagon troops if current air and ground attacks don't accomplish "Operation Odyssey Dawn's" objectives.

UN Resolution 1973

Claiming authority under the UN Charter's Article VII, it, in fact, violates Article 51, stating:

"Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defense shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security."

Effectively, UN Resolution 1973 authorized war, not peace. Moreover, it denied a sitting government, despotic or otherwise, the right of self-defense. A Western-backed insurgency initiated attacks, permitting a head of state to respond.

Further, the UN Charter explains under what conditions intervention, violence and coercion are justified. None exist in Libya.

In addition, Article 2(3) and Article 33(1) require peaceful settlement of international disputes, not "shock and awe" attacks. Article 2(4), in fact, prohibits force or its threatened use, including no-fly zones that are acts of war.

Further, Articles 2(3), 2(4), and 33 absolutely prohibit any unilateral or other external threat or use of force not specifically allowed under Article 51 or otherwise authorized by the Security Council - that may not violate its own Charter. In fact, Washington bullied enough members to do so, planning naked aggression in response.

Ostensibly to protect civilians, Resolution 1973's paragraph 4 authorized Member States "to take all necessary measures...." As a result, a giant interventionist loophole was created they knew Washington would exploit.

Under paragraph 6, moreover, "establish(ing) a ban on all flights in the airspace of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya in order to help protect civilians," in fact, harms them by US "shock and awe" attacks.

Further, paragraph 7's authorization for "flights whose sole purpose is humanitarian" denies them because Pentagon-controlled airspace will destroy any encountered Libyan aircraft, claiming it hostile, not delivering food, medical or other essential supplies or personnel.

In addition, supplying insurgents with weapons and munitions violates paragraph 13, "Call(ing) upon Member States, in particular States of the region, acting nationally or through regional organisations or arrangements, in order to ensure strict implementation of the arms embargo established by paragraphs 9 and 10 of resolution 1970 (2011), to inspect in their territory, including seaports and airports, and on the high seas, vessels and aircraft bound to or from" Libya.

In fact, besides covertly supplying its own weapons, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and perhaps other regional and/or NATO countries are arming insurgents, at the behest of Washington - violating Resolution 1973.

As a result, Libyans are at the mercy of US imperial aggression, disdaining all international laws, principles and standards. At war, Washington causes mass casualties and destruction. Now begun, expect much more ahead.

In addition, "coalition" participation is fig leaf cover for US aggression. AFRICOM's General Carter Ham has full command authority, directing UK, French and other belligerent partners, besides America's full air, sea and ground might.

Expect protracted conflict, perhaps "boots on the ground," putting a lie to Obama's promise for "humanitarian intervention" to end in "a matter of days, not weeks." Already, insurgency has been ongoing for weeks, perhaps months covertly, the worst yet to come, but already conditions are bad. They always are when Washington arrives.

Weapons of Mass Destruction Used

Since the 1991 Gulf War, Washington used nuclear weapons covertly - in depleted uranium (DU) form. Contaminating exposure is deadly. All US missiles, bombs, and shells have solid DU projectiles or warheads in them. Even bullets because in all forms, DU-tipped munitions easily penetrate armor, irradiating air, ground and water when used. DU, in fact, painfully kills from later contracted illnesses and diseases, including cancer and many others.

When weaponized DU strikes, it penetrates deeply, aerosolizing into a fine spray which then contaminates wide areas. Moreover, its residue is permanent. Its microscopic/submicroscopic particles remain suspended in air or swept into it from contaminated soil.

Atmospheric winds then carry it far distances as a radioactive component of atmospheric dust, falling indiscriminately to earth and water. Virtually every known illness and disease may result from severe headaches, muscle pain and general fatigue, to major birth defects, infection, depression, cardiovascular disease, many types of cancer and brain tumors. As a result, permanent disability or death may follow.

Moreover, DU use is illegal under international law. Although no specific convention or treaty bans radioactive weapons, including DU, they're, in fact, illegal de facto and de jure under the Hague Convention of 1907, prohibiting use of any "poison or poisoned weapons."

In all forms, DU is radioactive and chemically toxic, thus fitting the definition of poisonous weapons Hague banned. America is a signatory. As a result, DU weapons use for any purpose violates international law. Moreover, all DU weapons meet the U.S. federal code WMD definition in 2 out of 3 categories:

The US CODE, TITLE 50, CHAPTER 40, SECTION 2302 defines a Weapon of Mass Destruction as follows:

"The term 'weapon of mass destruction' means any weapon or device that is intended, or has the capability, to cause death or serious bodily injury to a significant number of people through the release, dissemination, or impact of (A) toxic or poisonous chemicals or their precursors, (B) a disease organism, or (C) radiation or radioactivity."

As a result, commanders up the chain of command, including civilian ones to the highest level, authorizing DU weapons use for any purpose are war criminals.

Moreover, under various UN Conventions and Covenants, weapons causing post-battle environmental or human harm are banned. Nonetheless, Washington uses them indiscriminately, including DU. As a result, millions of Iraqi, Serbian/Kosovar, and Afghan nationals, as well as belligerent US troops have been gravely harmed, yet Pentagon and administration authorities deny all responsibility.

Libyans will now be victimized by DU poisoning. Wherever it strikes and spreads, it's unforgiving, disabling and deadly. If enough is used, a future cancer epidemic will follow, too late to help those harmed.

Helen Caldicott calls radiation a "Destroyer of Worlds," doing it by killing people silently, painfully, illegally, and at times genocidally.

In 2005, before his death, no wonder Nobel laureate Harold Pinter condemned US aggression saying:

"(T)he United States no longer bothers about low intensity conflict. It no longer sees any point in being reticent or even devious......It quite simply doesn't give a damn about the United Nations, international law or critical dissent, which it regards as impotent and irrelevant."

Under Bush, Obama or anyone else, it does what it pleases - the law, human welfare, and environmental considerations be damned.

A Final Comment

On March 21, Reuters said missile and air attacks on Libya continue. The New York Times headlined, "Allies Target Qaddafi's Ground Forces, but Resistance Continues (unconfirmed) Reports Say." The Washington Post said, "Libyan rebels launch offensive; coalition pounds Gaddafi forces," that may be observing a ceasefire. Al Jazeera reported "Rejoicing in Libya's Benghazi," continuing its biased war reporting, siding with anti-Gaddafi forces.

In contrast, independent web sites, analysts, and on-air programming offer detailed, truthful information, including the Progressive Radio News Hour this writer hosts on the Progressive Radio Network.com, featuring distinguished guests, dominant media sources spurn.

Middle East/Central Asian analyst Mahdi Darius Nazemroaya is one of many reliable sources. On March 20, his Global Research.ca article headlined, "BREAKING NEWS: Libyan Sources Report Italian POWs Captured. Additional Coalition Jets Downed. Qatar has joined the War," saying:

-- unconfirmed "(i)nternal Libyan sources reported....the capture of an Italian vessel and military personnel, who were detained;"

-- Gaddafi's government "started supplying (Libyans) with food rations, medicine, and weapons to defend themselves;"

-- unconfirmed "Libyan sources reported" downing two more "coalition" jets, "identified as Qatari military planes;" and

-- unconfirmed Libyan sources claim five "coalition" jets downed, three attacking Tripoli, two others over Sirt.

March 22 marks day four of a protracted conflict. It's certain to cause widespread deaths, injuries, disabilities and destruction. It's assured when America arrives - on cruise missiles, bombs and shells, not white horses promoting peace and democratic values, what all US administrations disdain.

Israeli teenagers dressing up for the Jewish religious festival of Purim.

MARK GLENN WRITES: It is no accident that the destruction of Iraq and now Libya coincided with the Jewish festival of revenge known as Purim, where Jews worldwide celebrate the murder of 75,000 Persians as a result of the unholy sexapades and maneuvering of the Jewish heroine Esther. Until people in the west begin the process of understanding the tribal cult of Judaism and what kinds of backwards ideas it imposes upon its captive people, the world will continue to see murder and mayhem taking place on a mass scale as we all now witness in the Middle East.

VIDEO - Comment arrivera la victoire juive, Rabbin Ron Chaya. ” ...

PURIM: Hostility Toward Christians
Rooted In Boisterous Major Jewish Holiday
by Willis A. Carto

There is a little-known but deep-rooted history of virulent Jewish antagonism and violence against non-Jews (Christians in particular) but many scholars have ignored the record in this regard.
Now a forthright Jewish academic, Elliot Horowitz, associate professor of Jewish History at Israel's Bar-Han University, has come forth with a book that explores this ugly phenomenon: Reckless Rites: Purim and the Legacy of Jewish Violence.
This heavily-detailed, copiously-documented volume is a stunning contribution to the history of the Jewish people and their troubled relationship with "the other" -- the non-Jews whom the Jews refer to as "goyim," a term, which roughly translated, is the equivalent of "beast" (or more specifically, cattle).
Purim -- referred to in the book's title -- is the Jewish holiday spawned by the Old Testament's Book of Esther, a holiday based on a tale most Jewish and Christian theologians say is apocryphal. Esther of legend was the Jewish maiden who -- upon being married to the Persian king, who had no idea his bride was Jewish -- saved the Jews from destruction at the hands of the king's advisor, Haman, who was then executed, along WIth 75,000 other Persians. This, of course, was mass slaughter, genocide, and this early anti-Gentile Holocaust is proudly commemorated at Purim. Today again, the Jewish people and Israel target the Persian people -- the modern republic of Iran -- for destruction.
Most non-Jews have no idea the Jewish people -- who often condemn various historical pogroms (real and imagined) -- actually celebrate this genocide as one of their most boisterous holidays. Horowitz explains that, frequently, when Jews have broached the story of Purim to non-Jews that they have carefully deleted the conclusion of the story wherein the Jews orchestrated the slaughter of the Persians.
According to Horowitz, Jews have a record of comparing their arch-enemy Haman to Jesus Christ, hardly grounds for promoting "interfaith discourse," or the concept of "Judeo-Christianity," two trumpet calls which (when coming from Jewish sources) mean Christians must amend their teachings to accord with what Jews want Christians to believe. Horowitz notes comparisons of Haman to Christ are still prevalent in Jewish religious rites today.
In fact, he points out, deeply religious Jews have a record in modern-day Israel of acts of violence against non-Jews, but also acts of vandalism against Christian crosses. Horowitz focuses on how historians and theologians have deliberately distorted these uncomfortable truths about Jewish teachings and the real impact such teachings have had: that is, the instigation of violence by Jews against Christians.
An entire chapter in Horowitz's book demonstrates the disturbing, one might say "weird," Jewish hatred for the cross and of Jewish violence against displays of this Christian symbol and notes that, in fact, throughout history this Jewish hatred of Christ and the cross resulted in the rise of anti-Jewish attitudes in response. Horowitz explores Purim celebrations worldwide and demonstrates that violence and hatred toward non-Jews is commonplace and integral to the nature of the holiday theme. This ugliness is not the exception. Rather, it's the rule, an unsettling fact to comprehend.
In fact, prior to the 20th century, at which time Jewish influence upon Christian religious discussion rose to great heights, most Christian theologians shared the view of German Protestant theologian Carl Heinrich Cornill who said of the Book of Esther that "all the worst and most unpleasing features of Judaism are here displayed without disguise." Cornill echoed Emil Friedrich Kautzsch, who said the Book of Esther "expresses such national arrogance and such hatred of other nations."
British Baptist Dr. Thomas Davies said of the Book of Esther that in its teachings, "Nothing seems wrong if only it furthers the advancement of the Jews."

Ruth Meisels
